Oh the shame! Nearly one whole month since the last entry. I've been running around like a fly with a blue arse and blogging just seemed like too much work. But anyway, here I am.
We went to see the Chili Peppers yesterday at the much hyped Hyde Park gig. Well I was expecting an amazing experience with jam packed crowds and dancing and so on. The poor old Chicks on Speed were booed off stage. James Brown was brilliant and entertained a pretty apathetic crowd. He gave everything and was a real entertainer was so disappointed with the atmosphere. Too many sedate picnic people who didn't get off their arse at all. Then the Chili Peppers came on. They played well and sang well. The thing was, though, that outside the 'Golden Circle' which wasn't even full by the way, the crowd was too dispersed to make much of an atmosphere. While the band gave their songs everything, they didn't really talk to the crowd. James Brown made more of an effort.
Now, I know there are those that say Robbie Williams is crap but his Knebworth gigs was an absolute experience. He talked to us, snag with us and made everyone feel involved. I think, to be honest, the audience was also up for it more than yesterday too. Maybe because Robbie fans aren't busy being cool and don't care if we make arses of ourselves. On the train back I was chatting to somebody who had been in the 'Golden Circle'. Suffice to say his experience was very different. Put it this way: in the middle of the set, not only could I chat to Jon without shouting, I could also tune in to several conversations going on around me. Not exactly loud rock. So there we go. I shall now go and recreate the exact experience on my crappy stereo in my living room. At least then I'll understand why I'm the only one dancing around!
